Have you ever been annoyed where members of your team speak about their own accomplishments, where they say “I did this… or I did that…”, but in fact it was a group effort that brought about positive outcomes? I have, and it makes me feel left out! Today’s discussion is about a little word, “we” and its powerful potential when used in team building.Effective teams share things. They share information about the task at hand, such as the best way to explain features of products to customers, create machine parts or get the ball past the goal keeper on a sports field. Sharing often feels good and shows others that we are keen to work together to get the job done. It also demonstrates that we are capable of letting go of our individual ways of doing things in favour of a group approach.The same goes for how we express ourselves when talking to other people.
