That’s why thousands of Nashvillians have flocked to Middle Tennessee’s big-box stores in years past, just after eating their turkey and stuffing. Black Friday has become Black Thursday, which is now creeping into the entire month of November. And people are ready to spend this year. Consumers plan to shell out an average of $1,007 during the November and December holiday shopping season this year, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). That’s up 4.1 percent from the $967 shoppers planned to spend in 2017. NRF predicts overall holiday retail sales will surpass $715 billion this year, up from the $688 billion spent last holiday season. “Confidence is near an all-time high, unemployment is the lowest we’ve seen in decades and take-home wages are up. All of that is reflected in consumers’ buying plans,” NRF CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement.
