Red-hot Cartier bash, Mid-Winter Gala keep SF social set busy

It was a swan song of sorts at the de Young Museum for the Mid-Winter Gala founders on April 6. Fifteen years ago, event chairs Allison Speer, Kathryn Lasater, Vanessa Getty and (drumroll, please) Ambassador Trevor Traina established the Junior Committee of the Fine Arts Museums to dream up one of the hottest tickets on the EssEff social circuit. This year, they attracted a major gala sponsor in Cartier. Though the band isn’t completely breaking up, they’re looking at new ways and other leaders to continue this fete into the future. “We’re delighted there are some legitimate ‘juniors’ here tonight, like my brother Maxx Traina, Will Harlan, Matthew and Jason Goldman,” Traina joked. “Especially as some of us founding juniors become more senior.” In mid-May, Traina decamps for Vienna to assume his post as U.S. ambassador to Austria, a position recently confirmed unanimously by a surprisingly unified Senate. “I’m proud this party has evolved into an important attractor and fundraiser for the Fine Arts Museums,” said Traina. “When we started, there were fewer fundraisers for our generation.
