I remember when Nintendo’s NES Classic came out the first time—that joyful November week when everyone went crazy calling every retailer they could find to get their hands on a pretty emulator in a box. The NES Classic is a lovely piece of retro hardware that you can replicate on your desktop or laptop PC, but why should you? Part of the joy of owning this miniaturized console is to show it off in your home entertainment center—a mark of geek cred that should inspire your friends and loved ones to share their favorite memories of owning a Power Glove or the hours they spent as children pounding their hands into their Power Pads. (Cheaters.) While I have no idea if the NES Classic is going to be as popular as before when Nintendo re-releases it June 29—that’s this Friday—you’re going to want to do a little legwork to get your hands on the console just in case.
