Ambitious £2.4m Kilmarnock climbing centre plans at church get green light

Multi-million pound plans to convert a Kilmarnock church into a climbing centre will go ahead. Above Adventure, in partnership with East Ayrshire Council, has secured an additional £1.5 million from the Scottish Government for the £2.4m project. The Kilmarnock-based charity will now press ahead with ambitions to convert Grange Church on Woodstock Street into a state-of-the-art facility. “It’s the greatest feeling in the world,” said its chair Dean Pastulovic. “This is the end product of six years of hard graft and toil so it’s very surreal to have this funding package confirmed this week. “We really believe that this is fantastic news for Kilmarnock and the west coast of Scotland to have a state-of-the-art facility on our doorstep.” The project is so far progressed that, with funding for the capital project now in place, building work is expected to start later this year. The bouldering centre is set to open in May 2020 and the full facility by 2021.
