Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman accused of bribery to get their kids into elite schools

Two actresses, Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, were among dozens of people charged in a sweeping indictment exposing an alleged multimillion-dollar college admissions cheating scam at some of the nation’s swankiest universities.The indictment, unsealed in federal court in Boston on Tuesday, charges nearly 50 people with paying bribes to get their children into elite colleges. Among the colleges named in the indictment are Yale University, Stanford University, Georgetown and the University of Southern California. No New Jersey colleges were involved in the massive scheme, according to a spokesman with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey. Among those charged were college coaches, Hollywood celebrities and other elite socialites.Starting in 2011, parents spent anywhere from $200,000 to $6.5 million to guarantee their children’s admission, officials said.“These parents are a catalog of wealth and privilege,” U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said in announcing the $25 million federal bribery case.Authorities say parents paid bribes to coaches to get their children athletic spots on teams regardless of their athletic ability or experience.Loughlin, known for her role on “Full House,” paid $500,000 in exchange to have her two daughters “designated as recruits to the USC crew team – despite the fact that they did not participate… Read full this story
