LONDON Zoo has re-opened to the public today, despite the city remaining in Tier 4 lockdown. The attraction said that they are able to welcome guests back again by following strict social distancing guidelines. Due to being in the strictest lockdown, London restaurants, pubs and hotels have been forced to close – with guidelines also saying zoos must close. The government guidelines state: “The businesses required to close include […] zoos and other animal attractions.” London Zoo said in statement, however: “We’re now able to reopen on Thursday 31 December under Tier 4 guidance, so that you can safely visit for some fresh air, exercise and relaxation in the company of our outdoor animals.” They told concerned social media users: “We have been told we can reopen by the government.”A government spokesperson told the Mail Online that “outdoor areas of some visitor attractions can remain open, including zoos” as long as they followed strict rules, meaning Chessington and Marwell Zoo have also been able to open. Most of the indoor attractions at London Zoo are closed, while the outdoor attractions will remain open.
