After all your spas and ladies clubs revised their décor to reflect last year’s sky-blue-pink color palette, along comes Pantone’s 2017 color of the year to jam the system: it’s “greenery,” the color of a wheatgrass shot and/or any number of $16 health juices, because we are being trolled. Greenery, says Pantone’s incredibly soothing and somewhat sci-fi Insta announcement, is “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose amid a complex social and political landscape.” So basically Trump is President, the earth is dying and we are living in one of the talking ads in the movie Minority Report. Pantone’s Color of the Year Is Trying to Be Everything for Everyone
Pantone has released their 2018 Color of the Year—Ultra Violet, a chill shade of purple that is trying to be many things to many people, all at once. Some notes, should you want to incorporate this into your winter look: it’s a cool purple, more “blue than red,” per the AP; it speaks to “empowerment” but also “rebellion” and “the pleasing calm of Provence and its purple flower fields.” It’s a color I saw on a very fetching sweater dress at H&M on Black Friday that I nearly considered purchasing.
