Now Playing: Watch this: Inside Scoop: Why Office is staying off the iPad 3:02 For months, the Web teemed with rumors that Microsoft would launch Office for the iPad, making it the first touch-focused platform for the cash cow productivity suite. But when Microsoft unveiled the next version of Office this week, it was clear the iPad would have to wait. In an interview with CNET, Office division President Kurt DelBene said Microsoft's own Windows is the priority for the newest version of Office. The new touch-friendly productivity suite will debut on Windows 8, which launches in October, in large part because the operating system is the best showcase for Microsoft's application suite. "We have a unique opportunity with Windows 8 style applications to push that even further," DelBene said. DelBene didn't specifically address when, or even if, Microsoft would release a version of Office for the iPad, the dominant platform for touch-based tablet computing. But he made it clear … [Read more...] about Microsoft’s Office 15 intro comes without iPad flavor

Microsoft CEO cracks Microsoft joke in tweet
Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Microsoft has rarely been known for its sense of humor. It did try to allow Bill Gates to be funny with Jerry Seinfeld once upon a time, a campaign I rather liked. (I was alone in this.)In recent years, however, it's attempts at amusement have included the Scroogled campaign, which amused about as much as someone headbutting you and then offering you a 7-Eleven Slurpee to make up for it. Since Satya Nadella became CEO, however, there's been a palpable release of air, if you can call the departure of Steve Ballmer a release of air.Nadella has seemed both more relaxed than his predecessor and more open to not ramming Microsoft's products down people's throats and instead expressing both modesty and charm. On Tuesday, he had a little exchange with Box CEO Aaron Levie on Twitter. Levie offered a curiously dry tweet announcing something terribly important: "Incredibly excited to announce Box + … [Read more...] about Microsoft CEO cracks Microsoft joke in tweet
Windows 8 Is Just What Microsoft Needs
Bravo, Microsoft, for making a bold move with Windows 8. Yesterday at the All Things Digital: D9 conference, you showed the world that Windows is not constrained by, well, windows. It can wear a radically rethought interface that strips away window frames and lets control, content, and information live in a far more free-form way; one that's more natural for any touch- and gesture-driven device. Windows 8—a name that may not last until the anticipated 2012 launch—made its public debut this week and stunned many pundits who've grown accustomed to Microsoft showing the engine before the interface and not the other way around. My first experience with Internet Explorer 9, for example, was at a developers preview where the company showed only the engine and an interface that lacked virtually all interface accoutrements. Windows 8, by contrast, looked surprisingly polished for a pre-developer's build. As most people know by now, it looks remarkably like Windows Phone 7, complete … [Read more...] about Windows 8 Is Just What Microsoft Needs
Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online
Customer relationship management (CRM) software helps sales, marketing, and customer service professionals track which customers they've spoken with, when they spoke, and the topic under discussion. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online (starting at $65 per month) is a powerful CRM service with offline access, excellent reports, and tight integration with Microsoft Office 365. Much like our Editors' Choice Salesforce.com Sales Cloud, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online targets large enterprises, and the price tag and software interface reflects this. However, I found Salesforce.com easier to customize and to use to create automated rules. If your organization is heavily invested in Microsoft technologies such as SharePoint and Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will give you a better experience, but otherwise Salesforce.com is a stronger choice. Microsoft Dynamics Pricing The pricing plans for Microsoft Dynamics CRM are complicated, with different plans targeting sales and … [Read more...] about Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online
6 Amazing Things Microsoft Could Do With LinkedIn
By now you've probably heard the big news: Microsoft has agreed to purchase LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. As much as you like searching for new jobs, and scrolling through an endless number of memes about achieving your inner greatness, you're probably scratching your head, wondering why Microsoft would dump about a third of its worth on a social network that doesn't even crack the top three in popularity. It's fair to question whether or not the acquisition makes fiscal sense, or whether the two tech giants can form a cohesive and practical business unit. However, the acquisition doesn't entirely come out of the blue, especially if you've been closely following Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and his machinations. Less than a year ago, Nadella emailed his 118,000 global employees to lay out his vision for what Microsoft would become under his leadership. In that memo, he said Microsoft would invest in three interconnected goals. The second and third goals on his list were to build a more … [Read more...] about 6 Amazing Things Microsoft Could Do With LinkedIn
