Last week, Nvidia officially released new Windows 10 drivers for its family of graphics adapters.Normally, that would be no big deal--graphics hardware companies update their Windows video drivers all the time. The twist is that these new drivers, version 352.84, are certified for Windows 10 by the Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL), with full support for DirectX 12. After installation, Nvidia's GeForce Experience app reports that "this driver ... is the first WHQL-certified and latest recommended driver for all pre-release Windows testing."If you have an Nvidia adapter and you're running the Windows 10 Insider Preview, you can download the drivers directly from the company's download site. WHQL certification is a big deal. It means the drivers have passed a battery of independent tests from Microsoft and the driver package can include a digitally signed WHQL catalog file. Most importantly, it means the drivers are eligible to be distributed through Windows Update. If it seems … [Read more...] about Nvidia releases first WHQL-certified video driver for Windows 10

Microsoft is serious about AI. The next major Windows 10 update will ship with a dedicated AI platform that lets developers use pre-trained machine learning systems in their apps, saving them the hassle of coding one on their own. Microsoft has already made several AI integrations in existing products and services like Office 365 or Windows Hello that uses AI to recognize your faces to log you in. Microsoft’s new AI platform ML (presumably Machine Learning) will support existing industry standard frameworks like ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange), so that developers don’t need to relearn new formats and can port existing work over to ML. The ML model is also ready and “tuned for efficiency across the diverse silicon that runs Windows. By using instruction set optimizations on modern CPUs, hardware acceleration on GPUs that support DirectX 12, and a driver model for purpose-built AI processors in the future”. “AI acceleration on Window 10 PCs is the latest … [Read more...] about Microsoft is shipping a new AI platform in the next major update for Windows 10
Windows 10 launches in mere days on July 29 (though you might get it later). If you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, there's a good chance you've already reserved your spot for a free upgrade. But if not, it's not too late. Reserve now, and once it launches, you'll have a full year to upgrade to Windows 10. But while there are plenty of reasons to update to the new OS, a new question looms large. Will it run on your PC? Now, let's take a look at the hardware. There are five key requirements that a system will need to meet in order to support Windows 10, and those are the processor, RAM, hard disk space, graphics support, and minimum display resolution. Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2GB for 64-bit Hard disk space: 16GB for 32-bit OS or 20GB … [Read more...] about Can My PC Run Windows 10?
The wait for a Windows 10 app is over, VLC media player fans! One of the more highly favoured multimedia consoles in the last decade is now officially available, with native support, for the latest Microsoft operating system. VideoLAN just released a Beta-Type VLC for Windows 10 app, following a long development period and 'a lot of issues' that the development team faced. This new app has all the features you already know and love from the iOS and Android versions of VLC, plus a few extra goodies that are not present on those respective mobile editions of this highly sought media platform.
