Maker Creates Raspberry Pi Pico 3D Printed Soldering Jig

The Raspberry Pi Pico has one major issue:  it comes with no header pins soldered to it. As our tutorial on how to solder pins to Raspberry Pi Pico shows, solving this problem isn't difficult, but we do need to make sure that they are straight and if we have a lot of boards, this all takes time. Martin O'Hanlon was faced with this issue and so used a little 3D modelling knowledge and a 3D printer to create a jig to hold the pins in place. I had a load of @Raspberry_Pi Pico's I had to solder. I made this little holder. It was a real time saver (I didn't really think it would work, being made of plastic!) pic.twitter.com/v7lD78Adjj March 2, 2021 See more O'Hanlon, a senior learning manager at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, used the web based Tinkercad application to design a 3D printable jig that would securely hold the header pins in place and enable neat soldering for the Raspberry Pi Pico GPIO pins. The resulting print was then printed using a Creality … [Read more...] about Maker Creates Raspberry Pi Pico 3D Printed Soldering Jig

Olimex Teases New Raspberry Pi Pico Emulation Board

The range of Raspberry Pi Pico accessories keeps growing, and the latest is from Olimex . In a render teased via Twitter, Olimex appears to be working on their own breakout board with a focus on emulation, and it looks like they have crammed in everything we could need for a dose of retro computing. Its focus is on designing a board to accommodate retro emulation. Spurred on by Graham Sanderson's BBC Micro computer emulator, Olimex confirmed that this board would be their first board in the Pico range. The RP2040-PICO-PC is, as the name cryptically suggests, a 'PC' that uses the … [Read more...] about Olimex Teases New Raspberry Pi Pico Emulation Board

Raspberry Pi Uses Siri to Operate a Garage Door

Building the smart home of your dreams? You may want to check out Steve's Siri-controlled garage door management system from Steve Does Stuff on YouTube. It uses a Raspberry Pi integrated with Siri support to check the status of and control up to three individual garage doors. Users can interact with a custom interface hosted on a Flask-based web server. The dashboard offers various control options as well as log information with usage history for each door. You'll need a Raspberry Pi Zero W for this project as Wi-Fi support is absolutely critical to the system design. All of the information needs to be accessible through a network connection to provide the web-based support. It also uses a 4-channel relay, magnetic reed switch, and a hammer header for the Pi. Because the dashboard runs on a Flask server, it can be accessed from a computer, smartphone, tablet or even a smartwatch. The system can accept input from and output data using Siri as an interface. Visit the … [Read more...] about Raspberry Pi Uses Siri to Operate a Garage Door
