The XPS 17 sports four Thunderbolt 3 ports, a full-size SD card reader, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It is a very well-connected modern machine, though there is no USB-A, as there has been in previous XPS laptops. Dell is kind enough to include a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable and HDMI dongle in the box, however. If you’re considering differences in ports when looking at the two laptops, there’s just one. The MacBook has four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, as well as a headphone jack, but there is no SD card slot. That means you’ll need to dongle up with the MacBook. … [Read more...] about Dell XPS 17 vs. MacBook Pro 16-inch: Which big laptop reigns supreme?

Performance and battery life At its heart, the MatePad Pro is the same as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and P40 Pro smartphone. It uses the Kirin 990 chipset. It’s matched to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space, with room for a proprietary Huawei memory card. MicroSD cards do not fit inside. Huawei has announced a 5G version, but my review model is Wi-Fi only. The battery has a 7,250mAh capacity and is charged using a USB Type-C wired connection or wireless charging. … [Read more...] about Huawei MatePad Pro Review: In the iPad’s shadow
Microsoft Surface Pro 7 — $799, was $1029 While the Microsoft Surface Go is all well and good, if you don’t mind a little extra weight and prefer a laptop hybrid that packs a real punch under the hood, then the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is definitely your best bet. It’s ever so slightly larger than the Surface Go with its 12.3-inch diagonal PixelSense display, and it weighs only 0.55 pounds more at 1.7 pounds. Compared to the Surface Go, it’s noticeably heavier when carried around, but it’s a small enough difference that it’s negligible in the long run. The 2,736 x 1,824 resolution is also far superior to the Go and most laptops, outmatching QHD displays and rendering all multimedia in extremely high quality, making it great for movie viewing and photo editing. … [Read more...] about Microsoft Surface Go, Surface Pro 7 in the discount bin — save up to $230
What’s even better is that HP won’t be the only manufacturer to integrate the solution. Intel is working with Tile to create a similar solution to the one implemented in the Elite Dragonfly, although there will apparently be some differences. We don’t know the specifics, but it appears that the more widespread solution will work when a laptop is sleeping but not completely turned off, and it will integrate with Intel’s vPro infrastructure to support remote lock and wipe. It will, therefore, be more like Apple’s Find My Mac feature than HP’s implementation. … [Read more...] about Built-in Tile is one of my favorite laptop features to ever exist
Ray tracing and DLSS Outside of raw power, the two main selling points for Nvidia’s RTX 20 Series graphics cards are ray tracing and deep learning super sampling (DLSS). Much like in our comparison of the AMD Radeon VII and Nvidia’s RTX 2080, there is a stark difference between the two cards we’re comparing here: One has hardware supporting these features and the other does not. … [Read more...] about Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti vs. RTX 2060
