The Baja 1000: hardcore off-road vehicles racing each other, fighting a fiercely hostile landscape. Jumps, powerslides, awesomeness. Also hours of being jostled around a steel cage and pissing into a bag taped to your leg. Wish us luck! I accepted the invitation to co-drive part of this legendary race with a shrug and a hell yeah, because Baja. Good friends, scenery, of course I could convince the Jalopnik brass I needed some sick days. The prerun was pretty much what I expected; sand, beers, maybe a little shoveling. Now I’m realizing race day is not at all the same thing. As the sun dropped in Ensenada, you could feel a change in the air. More tension, testosterone. And not the kind that’s flowing when Paris Du Noche does happy hour. The Baja goofiness is gone. Replaced with, not aggression per se, but intensity. Shannon Welch, a manager of the Ultra 4 race series and part of our Baja support crew, articulated it nicely; “sometimes brains go out people’s butts … [Read more...] about I’m Racing The Baja 1000 Today And Finally Realized I’m Terrified

Like many Americans and fellow Sci-Fi fans, I gave into the collective pressure of seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens on opening weekend. My … [Read more...] about Why Star Wars is the last movie I ever want to see in a theater
All fans of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" remember the first time they watched Joel or Mike and the bots ridicule a poorly made piece of cinema. The TV glued that moment onto their brains the way Guy Pierce covered his body with permanent Post-it notes in "Memento." My old man and I were spending a lazy Saturday night looking for something to watch when a strange movie on Comedy Central stopped his incessant channel surfing. It was some B-movie schlock about aliens with long snouts that hard-core film fans would easily recognize as the classic episode "The Pod People." The movie wasn't the most interesting part. Our attention was drawn to the strange silhouettes of a man and two weird-looking puppets sitting in the front row of a theater at the bottom of the screen. They were talking back to the movie, and unlike those annoying teenagers who seem to inhabit every movie theater in the country, they were actually funny. We watched every episode we could find. We scheduled meals, … [Read more...] about 7 movie turkeys the new MST3K needs to tackle

For less than $200, you get a 64-bit Windows 10 operating system, a simple but sturdy physical build, long battery life, and fast enough processing for Web browsing, word processing, and other day-to-day tasks.
