Intel might have finally set an official release date for its Rocket Lake chips that will soon vie for a spot on our list of Best CPUs . HardwareLUXX editor Andreas Schilling today reported that “the sales embargo for 11th Gen Desktop processors (Rocket Lake S) is March 30, 2021, at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET." The announcement was largely symbolic. Representatives from MSI and Gigabyte revealed the March launch window in January, Milwaukee PC leaked the line’s pricing a few days ago, and Mindfactory sold its entire Core i7-11700K stock last weekend. A federal jury in Waco, Texas, ruled today that Intel must pay $2.18 billion in damages to VLSI, a semiconductor design firm, for violating two of its patents. Damages for one patent violation weigh in at $1.5 billion, while the other totals $675 million. The broader case is still ongoing, though, as VLSI has sued Intel in several states, spanning California, Delaware, and Texas, for damages associated with six other alleged patent violations. Intel's most recent 10K filing lists the VLSI lawsuits as ongoing litigation, noting that VLSI seeks a total of $7.1 billion in damages from all eight alleged violations, along with future royalties, attorney's fees, costs, and interest. Intel predicts that totals up to $11 billion, collectively. Intel commented on today's ruling, saying to Tom's Hardware , "Intel strongly disagrees with today’s jury verdict. We intend to appeal and are confident that we will prevail." AMD announced today that the Threadripper Pro desktop processors, which top out with 64 cores and 128 threads with the Threadripper Pro 3995WX , are now available for purchase worldwide. These chips were previously exclusively available in Lenovo's ThinkStation P620 workstation that we recently reviewed , but the chips and the accompanying WRX80 motherboards are now available at retailers. These chips had already popped up at a few retailers in January, and AMD had previously shared the official pricing for the Threadripper Pro lineup , which you can see below.
