Shanghai Tianshu Intellectual Semiconductor Co. (Tianshu Zhixin) announced Wednesday that it's nearing "mass production and commercial delivery" of Big Island, China's first domestically produced 7nm general-purpose GPU (GPGPU). Tianshu Zhixin said in January that BI was made using an unidentified 7nm process node and 2.5D chip-on-wafer-on-substrate (CoWoS) packaging. On Wednesday, it confirmed our suspicion that BI was made using TSMC's 7nm FinFET process. It also shared a little more information about what people can expect from BI when it starts to ship. The image below shows Tianshu Zhixin's performance claims in a variety of floating point formats that it teased during the January announcement: Tianshu Zhixin claimed that BI offers "nearly twice the performance of mainstream manufacturers' products" at a lower power consumption while also offering a more attractive price-to-performance ratio. (Pricing details weren't revealed, however.) The company said that its … [Read more...] about China’s First 7nm GPU Nears Mass Production, Pics Emerge

Prime Day vs. Black Friday: When’s the best time to shop?
Two of the biggest sales events of the year are Amazon’s Prime Day and Black Friday, but how do you know which is the best one to shop? And are there key differences between the two events? Read on as we weigh up Prime Day versus Black Friday and explain everything you need to know about the two sales events. What is Prime Day? Prime Day is Amazon’s annual sales event to mark its birthday. It’s exclusively for Amazon Prime members rather than anyone with an Amazon account, but it’s possible to access the deals via an Amazon Prime free trial if you subscribe at the same time as the event. We don’t have a set date lined up yet for Prime Day but, traditionally, it’s held during the first or second week of July. The two-day sales event has gone from strength to strength since its creation in 2015. In 2020, the event was postponed until October 13 through 14 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but it’s expected that Prime Day 2021 will return to its usual slot in July giving consumers a … [Read more...] about Prime Day vs. Black Friday: When’s the best time to shop?

Xiaomi is launching its 2021 flagships on March 29. No, not the Mi 11 , that one was technically launched at the tail-end of 2020. It’s debuting the Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra, its true flagships for 2021. The company broke the announcement on its Weibo social account today. Xiaomi, like most Android phone makers , doesn’t just make one high-end phone a year. So while the Mi 11 offers a good experience on its own, the Mi 11 Pro will have that at a minimum, but the hardware will be improved. It’ll also be coming with more RAM and a bigger battery. Leaks from XDA Developers say the Mi 11 Pro will have up to 12GB of RAM, while the Ultra will have up to 16GB of RAM. Both are said to come with 5,000 mAh batteries and 67W wired fast charging. We also expect 50-megapixel main cameras for both, a 13MP wide-angle with a 5MP macro and a telephoto camera for the Pro, plus a pair of 48MP wide and telephoto cameras for the Ultra. The front cameras will remain the same, as will the … [Read more...] about Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra are coming on March 29
Intel to Make Custom x86 CPUs as Part of Ambitious Expansion Plan
Intel on Tuesday revealed its vision for the future called IDM 2.0, which is an evolution of the company's integrated device manufacturing (IDM) model mixed with two contrasting ingredients: outsourcing and foundry services. Intel will not give up its own manufacturing and will do everything it needs to recapture process technology leadership. Furthermore, Intel will build additional production capacities in the U.S. and Europe and will start offering foundry services to third parties. The company will spend $20 billion to expand its capacities in Arizona. To gain customers, Intel Foundry Services will offer clients Intel's IP, including customizable CPU cores, and will embrace industry-standard IP and flows, making it relatively easy to switch from other makers to Intel. Imagine an Amazon, Microsoft or Google-designed x86 chip! Meanwhile, to offer its customers absolutely the best products, Intel will outsource some of its devices to third parties that happen to have something … [Read more...] about Intel to Make Custom x86 CPUs as Part of Ambitious Expansion Plan
