After a much-needed respite from the public eye, former first lady Michelle Obama will soon be back in our lives. According to the Washington Times, Obama will appear as a guest judge on the fifth season of MasterChef Junior in late February. She will join chefs Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi to judge children between the ages of 8 and 13 who are competing for a $100,000 prize. Given her advocacy for healthy eating during her time in the White House, Obama will most likely have the kids prepare a healthy meal. Not only did she revive the White House vegetable garden (which Melania Trump said she would keep), but she also founded the Let’s Move! Initiative in 2010 that promoted regular exercise and healthy food choices. Other notable guest judges will include Martha Stewart and the Muppets. We can’t wait! Masterchef season 8
Spring has sprung, and it brings with it all sorts of delicious alliums. From the uber-popular ramp to sweet and coy green garlic, these onion-adjacent plant parts bring fresh, savory flavors to everything they touch. Anyway. These thin, delicate little guys look like small leeks and have broad, green leaves. Ramps are shady subjects, and are foraged from dark, wooded areas. Their pungent, garlicky, oniony flavor and short season (generally late April to early June) make them very popular, but you should be able to find them at your local farmer’s … [Read more...] about Three Spring Alliums That Really Ramp Up the Flavor

A week ago, Fox began to delay posting its shows online for eight days after they aired on television. Effective Aug. 15, unless users have a subscription to Hulu Plus or DISH Network, they’ve got to wait more than a week to watch shows like Glee or The Simpsons. According to TorrentFreak, this delay has caused a spike in piracy of Fox programs. TorrentFreak said it tracked two Fox shows on BitTorrent for the first week the delay has been in effect. In the first five days, downloads for the latest episode of Hell’s Kitchen increased by 114 percent compared to the first three episodes of the season and downloads for MasterChef increased by 189 percent. In the past, Fox shows were generally posted online 24 hours after they were broadcast on TV. TorrentFreak cites lack of availability as a reason viewers turn to alternative sources. That Fox has stopped making its shows available online in just a day doesn’t mean people will stop watching these shows, but that … [Read more...] about Has Fox’s 8-Day Hulu Delay Caused a Spike in Piracy?
