June brings lots of big Netflix originals. The fourth season of "Orange is the New Black" arrives on June 17. Apparently, the show is going to become a bit darker. On the lighter side, Netflix will stream season one of "Voltron: Legendary Defender" starting on June 10. I was a huge Voltron fan when I was a kid, so I will definitely be checking it out. Bo Burnham has a new comedy special called "Bo Burnham: Make Happy" hitting Netflix on June 3. One of my guilty pleasure shows, "Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed" arrives on Netflix in June. The show featured a masked magician showing off tricks illusions while Mitch Pileggi narrates with terrible comedy. Are the founders of Rdio prepping a Netflix competitor? GigaOm reports that Janus Friis with Niklas Zennström have pulled together a tech-savvy team for the launch of Vdio, which looks as though it will offer access to TV and movie content like Breaking Bad and A Few Good Men. There's the option to "Login using Facebook" (click below for larger image), but in the U.S., connecting your account produces a message that says Vdio is "currently available in the UK only." According to GigaOm, those in the U.K. get a message the says the service is "coming soon." Friis and Zennström are also behind KaZaA, Joost, and Skype, which formally became a division of Microsoft last week. The service also has a rather sparse Facebook page; the @vdio Twitter feed is occupied by someone who has not updated since 2009, with the simple message: … [Read more...] about Team Behind Rdio Targeting Netflix With Vdio?
Netflix has finally announced what everyone assumed, giving a March timeframe for its Australian launch, although other details are sketchy right now. Specifically, there’s no word on pricing arrangements, whether they’ll block Australian users from accessing the US service or indeed content much beyond the stuff you’d expect Netflix to offer, which is to say its own original series, including the upcoming Marvel series. Interestingly, though, they’re not shying away from offering 4K content, at least according to their official release. Here’s the full release for your reading enjoyment: LOS GATOS, Calif.
