What to expect in mobile at CES 2021: Galaxy S21, foldables, wearables, and 5G

CES 2021 is rapidly approaching, and while things will certainly be different from the massive in-person event of 2020, there’s still plenty to anticipate and get excited about with the latest iteration of the show. Even in a normal year, many of the biggest headlines and attention-grabbing announcements come around the show, rather than directly at the show. That’s likely to be the case even more so at CES 2021, since the entire show is virtual. Companies are likely to see less appeal to being a part of the official CES virtual platform compared to the usual in-person convention center booth space, so we’re likely to see a lot of announcements come at the same time as CES even if it’s not part of CES. Here’s what we expect to see at CES 2021 for mobile. Samsung Galaxy S21 series Of all the “not really at CES” announcements, Samsung may be providing the biggest. The company confirmed it will hold a virtual … [Read more...] about What to expect in mobile at CES 2021: Galaxy S21, foldables, wearables, and 5G

T-Mobile 5G home internet: Coverage, speeds, and plans

Verizon may have been the first to start deploying actual 5G , but its network was small and spotty. T-Mobile was the first to an arguably much more important title — the first to launch nationwide 5G network coverage . And, along with that nationwide network, the company has also started deploying its 5G home internet service. Unlike Verizon, T-Mobile has been quiet about its 5G internet service, and it would be easy not to have known that it even had one. But it does — and while it’s not super widely available just yet, it will likely continue to expand over the next few years. Interested in the T-Mobile 5G home internet service? T-Mobile’s Home Office Internet service brings 5G to businesses nationwide

T-Mobile is getting more serious about internet services beyond phones — and it’s all on the back of its nationwide 5G network. The company has announced a new wireless Home Office Internet service, and it’s built specifically to “give remote employees the bandwidth and security needed to get work done.” The new product is one of three services that are bundled into what T-Mobile calls “T-Mobile WFX” and is for enterprise customers — so it’s not necessarily for those looking for a replacement to their wired home internet service just yet. People who sign up for the service will get a router that they can install themselves and that basically converts 5G or LTE signals to Wi-Fi for the surrounding area. EA just made a genius mobile gaming power play with Glu Mobile acquisition

Electronic Arts has been on a buying spree for the last few months – but its latest purchase was an absolutely essential one. The publisher announced plans Monday to acquire Glu Mobile in a deal worth $2.1 billion. It’s a pairing that might not make sense at first. Why, after all, would the company behind Madden, Mass Effect, and Battlefield want a mobile gaming company best known for fare like Design Home, Diner Dash, and Kim Kardashian: Hollywood? It comes down to a few things. First, EA desperately needed a mobile division. Despite several attempts to make an impact in the mobile space over the past 10 years or so, EA has never been especially successful. Activision’s buyout of Candy Crush Saga developer King five years ago set the company on a mobile path that has been hugely profitable. EA (and its investors) have been trying to find a way to emulate that. Glu, of course, isn’t King. A game featuring Kim Kardashian doesn’t have the widespread appeal … [Read more...] about EA just made a genius mobile gaming power play with Glu Mobile acquisition
