Powering Beagle V is a dual core 64-bit U74 RISC-V CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz and up to 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. From a CPU perspective Beagle V looks to be slightly faster than a Raspberry Pi 4, but looking at the StarFive JH7100 System on Chip (SoC) we can see a Tensilica-VP6 used in computer vision projects, an Nvidia Deep Learning Accelerator (NVDLA) used for artificial intelligence and finally a Neural Network Engine. All of these point towards a board that looks on paper to be quite the AI / machine learning powerhouse. Best of all Beagle V is a purely open source product, with both the hardware and the software offered under an open source licence. … [Read more...] about RISC-V Powered BeagleV Board Announced Via New Collaboration

The Golden Age of Graphics? The Number of GPU Developers Skyrockets in 2020
Developing GPUs is a very tricky task. These processors tend to be extremely complex in terms of transistor count, and they also feature distinct subsystems and a multifaceted software stack. It remains to be seen how many of these new GPU projects will actually be a success. Still, it is pretty obvious that with Intel and several new entrants, AMD and Nvidia will face considerably more competition in the next couple of years than they have in the last couple of decades. … [Read more...] about The Golden Age of Graphics? Adafruit To Add ‘Pi Silicon’ To Their Boards
Adafruit's Itsy Bitsy range of boards are a smaller form factor to the Feather, but Adafruit have still managed to squeeze the RP2040 into a board. The Itsy Bitsy RP2040 is still in early development and the final design may vary, but in the video, Fried hints that this board may come with castellated pads, in a similar design choice to the Raspberry Pi Pico. … [Read more...] about Adafruit To Add ‘Pi Silicon’ To Their Boards
Arduino To Release Board Based on Raspberry Pi Silicon
With the news of the Raspberry Pi Pico still fresh in our minds, we see that Arduino are also releasing their own board, a board that is based upon Raspberry Pi's new RP2040 SoC, as confirmed by Arduino co-founder and chairman Massimo Banzi and CEO Fabio Violante. … [Read more...] about Arduino To Release Board Based on Raspberry Pi Silicon
