Booting your PC can either go by in a few blinks of an eye or take up to minutes for those poor souls still booting off of an archaic HDD. These days we often take for granted how quickly our systems respond to our requests now that SSDs are prevalent. Through both UEFI optimizations as well as SSDs, we no longer have to dread long wait times that plagued our HDD experiences a decade ago. However, even one of the best SSDs can only do so much to speed up your user experience if the underlying hardware is the bottleneck. … [Read more...] about Which PC Boots Up and Shuts Down Faster: AMD or Intel?
Rx 570 flops
Though AMD has been aggressive on price in the past, PC gamers looking for a steep discount on Big Navi may be in for a disappointment. In press presentations throughout this year, Su had stated that as AMD realizes its investments in graphics deliver significant value to gamers, the company has slowly been increasing the prices of its GPUs in recent years in an attempt to generate better margins. We expect this will continue with Big Navi, especially since the demand for gaming and entertainment continues to climb amid new work, study, and play from home environments created by the global health pandemic. … [Read more...] about AMD Radeon RX 6000 series: News, rumors, and everything we know so far
The graphics card draws power through two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The PCIe slot delivers up to 75W and each 8-pin PCIe power connector can supply up to 150W, meaning the Radeon RX 6000 could pull up to 375W. It doesn't necessarily mean that Big Navi is a power hog, though. It's just that the juice is there if the graphics card requires it. … [Read more...] about This Is What AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 “Big Navi” Looks Like
The little we know about the RX 6000 series is that it will run on the latest 7nm node from TSMC with a near 50% performance per watt improvement over the RX 5000 series (RDNA 1). We believe AMD will change course and start competing with Nvidia's higher-end offerings like the RTX 3080. Whereas right now, AMD's flagship, the RX 5700 XT, competes in the mid-range only. For reference, in our Best Graphics Cards of 2020 overview, we set the RX 5700 XT just below the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER.Specs for the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has also given us some useful information regarding RDNA 2's capabilities, both consoles could have up to RTX 2080 Ti performance for under 250W including the entire system. So we know RDNA 2 is a very capable architecture, but this is just for consoles, we could see different results on desktop variants in the future. … [Read more...] about AMD Announces Keynote Dates for Zen 3 and Big Navi
I gloss over these engineering efforts only because they are few and far between: Microsoft has built support for drag-and-drop into one or two apps, including OneNote, which I’ve never found a really compelling use for. And almost no apps are designed to smartly use both screens, despite the fact that it’s been a year since Microsoft began talking about this device. Sure, they can invent this new UI, but it’s up to others to make hay with it. Google has had endless problems getting developers to make apps to fit large screens, as has Samsung; Microsoft has struggled in the past getting developers to support its newest initiatives as well. There’s a risk Instagram, Tik Tok, Adobe, and whoever else simply refuses to do the work, hindering the Duo dramatically. … [Read more...] about Microsoft Surface Duo review: The future of smartphones is a work in progress
