LAS VEGAS -- Samsung on Monday showed off its latest TVs and home appliances as it attempts to maintain its leadership position in home electronics. The Korean company has large ambitions: it sells more televisions and mobile devices than any other rival in the world, and it aims to soon become the world's biggest home appliances vendor as well. Samsung 4K TV? Well, it will cost you. $40,000, to be exact. The Korean electronics giant today talked up new features of its 2013 lineup during an event in New York. We also now have information about pricing and availability for Samsung's other TVs, including its LED 8000-series and its plasma 8500-series TV sets. (Check out the handy chart for LED and plasma TVs below). Many of those products are already popping up at online and brick-and-mortar retailers. Just two months ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung--along with all of its competitors--talked up its new line of of 2012 TVs. As is always the case at CES, the new product info was long on hype and short on details. That changed today, when Samsung began filling it a lot of the blanks. No, the company didn't say a word about its "Super OLED" TV, and we don't expect to hear anything more on that until at least midsummer. Samsung did release official pricing on its other TVs, however, updating the leaked pricing information we had earlier and confirming that, yes, high-end Samsung TVs will be pretty dang expensive (see the chart below). The company does offer many, many different step-down models, however, in a seemingly endless proliferation of model numbers and screen sizes, so chances are there's a combination that will appeal to you. Now is not a great time to buy a 2017 TV.The newest TVs are starting to hit the market, and Samsung's Quantum dot LED (QLED) TVs just appeared for preorder on Samsung's site as well as places like Amazon and Best Buy. Initial prices are hella expensive.The cheapest QLED TV so far, the 55-inch QN55Q7F, costs $2,500. That's $200 more than LG's cheapest 2016 OLED TV, the B6P, which we called the best TV we've ever tested. LG's cheapest 2017 OLED TV costs $3,500.Television prices follow a predictable trend. Most TVs get introduced during late winter and early spring at their most expensive, and fall in price throughout they year. Many bottom out around November for Black Friday sales, and remain near their lowest points through the holiday season until the Super Bowl, when they begin to be replaced by the newer sets.
