Let’s talk about the zoom. At 10x and 3x optical zoom levels, the results are often staggering. There’s masses of detail in the photos, unmarred by aggressive software enhancements, resulting in crisp, sharp, colorful, and well-balanced pictures you’ll be happy to share. It does have some problems, though. Put it against the Huawei P40 Pro — which gave us a highly capable 10x hybrid zoom in May 2020 — and you’ll find that the Huawei can capture far more realistic colors — and often even more detail in the process. The ThinkPad 13 hits a 520:1 contrast ratio at maximum brightness. Again, that’s okay, but not great. The Zenbook hits 820:1, for example. Some affordable laptops like the Satellite Radius 14 are far worse (it’s contrast ratio was a horrible 90:1). But that doesn’t make this display good. If you’re watching a movie on the ThinkPad 13 with a lot of dark scenes, you’re likely to miss out on a lot of shades of grey.
