It's that time of year again when throngs of people line up, sometimes days in advance, for the latest and greatest version of the Apple iPhone. Thursday is the official release date for the iPhone 4. And from the looks of things, this year could be the biggest of all iPhone launches. AT&T says that demand for the iPhone 4 is 10 times what it was for the iPhone 3GS. And Apple says it took 600,000 preorders for the new phone through its sales channels. If history is any indication of what to expect, initial sales of the iPhone 4 are likely be a doozy. Apple sold more than 1 million iPhone 3GS smartphones the first three days it was on sale. The original iPhone sold about 270,000 units during its first weekend in June 2007, while the iPhone 3G sold around 1 million when it launched in July 2008. Apple CEO Steve Jobs called the iPhone 4, which is the fourth generation of iPhone, the "biggest leap since the original iPhone" was launched in 2007. With a new homegrown processor like … [Read more...] about Preparing for iPhone 4 launch day (FAQ)

After much fanfare, a minor pre-order meltdown, and what was perhaps the largest collection of Apple software updates to go out in a single week, the next iPhone arrives tomorrow. If it feels like a long time since the iPhone 4 went on sale, you're not mistaken. The iPhone 4S, Apple's follow-up to the iPhone 4, comes a few months later than Apple has typically released previous handsets, and it seems even longer given that leaks led to the world seeing the final design months before it was officially unveiled. From the looks of it, Apple appears to have used that extra time to polish the latest version of its iOS software, which went out to users yesterday, as well as to ready Siri, the iPhone 4S exclusive voice assistant that's being launched as an uncharacteristic "beta." That's not all that's different though. This year's launch brings a number of other changes, which we've detailed beneath. More carriers This time around your choices are more spread out with the addition of … [Read more...] about iPhone 4S launch: What’s different this time?
Just about everyone expects Apple to launch a new iPhone later this year, but according to a new report, the company might also unveil a new iPad. Taiwanese Apple supply partner Pegatron has scored the production of Apple's next iPhone, as well as a new iPad, Digitimes is reporting, citing sources. The blog, which has become well known for its rumors, claims Pegatron will need to have the next iPhone available for a September launch. The new iPad will be ready for a fourth-quarter launch, according to the site's sources. Digitimes added another wrinkle to its report, saying that the new iPad will come with a 10-inch display. It's not clear if the blog was simply rounding up, and the device will feature the same 9.7-inch screen found in Apple's current iPad, or if the Cupertino, Calif.-based company will be offering up a slate with a legitimately 10-inch screen. One of the biggest questions surrounding the Apple ecosystem right now is when the next iPhone will actually launch. Some … [Read more...] about New iPhone, iPad launching later this year?

The Galaxy Note 8 has been launched in India to great fanfare for Rs 67,990. In the lead up to the launch of the phone, there have been news reports which indicate that there are more 2.5 lakh pre-orders for the phone which indicates people in India love the Galaxy Note. If anything their appetite for a new Note is even more voracious considering that Samsung pulled out the Galaxy Note 7 from the market a year ago on the day it was to release the phone in the Indian market. On the face of it, the Galaxy Note 8 is a formidable beast. It should be able to even give the incoming 10th anniversary iPhone a run for its money. It takes everything Samsung put into the … [Read more...] about Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 arrives in India on Apple’s iPhone 8 launch day
Apple rumormongering: Go! A new research note from Jefferies & Co analyst Peter Misek suggests that Apple isn't going to be performing a significant upgrade to the connection capabilities of its new, to-be-released iPhone—namely, no 4G LTE support. Whenever the next version of Apple's smartphone hits the market—we're already nearing the one-year anniversary of the iPhone 4's launch with no hint of a new product in sight—Misek suggests that the device will only have incremental upgrades compared to the iPhone 4's specifications. Heck, it's practically keeping the same name. "We believe the likelihood of the iPhone 5 launch in September including LTE [Long-Term Evolution] is now remote," wrote Misek in a research note on May 13. "According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ [EvolvedHigh-Speed Packet Access] support." The bigger news on Apple's … [Read more...] about Rumor: New “iPhone 4S” Launching on T-Mobile and Sprint, Too?
